We’ve had a marvellous month concluding our transportation theme! The children had the chance to get some fresh air and go for a ‘transportation walk’ to look at the different types of transportation near our school. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to review what they have learnt through asking questions and discussing with one another what they observed. One of our students asked an interesting question while on our walk, ‘why does the pedestrian light only have two lights when the traffic lights have three?’.  

我們度過了一個奇妙的月份,為《交通工具》主題作一個總結!孩子們有機會獲得新鮮空氣,並進行「交通步行」,以了解我們學校附近的各種運輸方式。對於他們來說,這是一個絕佳的機會,可以通過提問和彼此討論所觀察到的內容來回顧所學到的東西。其中一位學生途中問了一個有趣的問題:「為什麼行人燈只有兩個,而交通燈卻有三盞?」。

As we come to the end of this topic, we have collaborated with parents and students and have compiled our very own K1 Transportation Book! Each page is uniquely designed by each child that share which types of transportation they have taken. It’s wonderful to see the fun stickers, photographs and stories written by the students with the help of their parents. One of our students even created her own bright and colourful Hong Kong map with pictures of the transportation she has been on.

在接近完成本主題之際,我們與父母和學生合作,編寫了K1的交通工具手冊!每個頁面都是由孩子親自設計的,分享了他們所乘坐過的交通工具類型。很高興看到各種有趣的貼紙、相片,和學生在父母的幫助下寫的故事。我們的一位學生甚至用自己乘搭過的交通工具的照片製作了屬於她自己的香港地圖。

The children had lots of fun during our International Day celebration. Some children dressed beautifully in their national dress as well. One of our students from Taiwan excitedly represented her country by uniquely dressing up as a Taiwanese pineapple! During our whole-school fashion show, the children had the chance to walk and show the school the lovely clothes they were wearing as we introduced the places they would love to travel to. We also had a few performances from the K1 students and parents. The children presented about special festival lights from India, Eric Carle’s ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ munching on delicious Hong Kong snacks and even an entire presentation about India. A big bravo to these students and parents for taking part!

在國際日慶祝活動中,孩子們玩得很開心。一些孩子也穿著漂亮的民族服裝。我們一位來自台灣的學生裝扮成台灣菠蘿,以獨特的形式興奮地代表著她的國家!孩子們有機會參與時裝秀,向全校展示他們穿著的漂亮衣服,同時介紹了他們想去的地方。有幾位K1學生和家長還準備了表演 - 有的孩子展示了來自印度的特別節日燈、有的以埃里克·卡爾(Eric Carle)的《飢餓的毛毛蟲》(Hungry Caterpillar)來介紹美味的香港小吃,有的甚至介紹了有關印度的一切。對於這些學生和家長的參與,真是太棒了!

MANDARIN

After learning about different land and air transportation, K1 students focused on water transportation in May. We were lucky that the sun shone during our walk to the waterfront boat harbour, and the students had great fun spotting and counting the different types of transportation they encountered along the way. They also understood the meaning of the different coloured traffic lights. After the transportation walk, we turned the classroom into a pier for the students to row a boat – what wonderful imaginary play!

五月,幼兒班的小朋友學習了陸上的交通工具、空中的交通工具後,繼續展開了海上交通工具的學習以及探索交通工具的旅程。孩子們和老師一起沿著小路,來到了學校附近的鯉魚門。當看到的士、貨車、小汽車、巴士、小巴、甚至警察車等交通工具,孩子們都興奮不已,而在鯉魚門和三家村渡口,小朋友看到渡海小輪、木船、帆船等海上交通工具時更是表現雀躍。「生活即教育。」通過這次外遊我們不但認識了海上交通工具,並且對其他交通工具以及交通燈都有了深入的認識。外遊回來後,我們把教室變成了「碼頭」跟孩子們一起玩划小船的遊戲,小朋友均能積極投入。這真是一個特別貼近生活的主題!

We have now concluded our transportation theme and have started the topic of study A Long Time Ago. The children learnt about the beauty of traditional Chinese culture through different storytelling and poems. We have also travelled to the Mesozoic Era to meet with palaeontologists to learn more about fossils and different dinosaurs like Tyrannosaurus Rex. The children have shown a keen interest in this topic and we look forward to continuing our exploration of the world of dinosaurs next month. Get ready for dinosaur stomps!

交通工具的單元結束,我們開始了《很久以前》這個單元的學習,老師通過故事《司馬光砸缸》、《孔融讓梨》的故事帶出了中國傳統文化的優美,並通過《咏鵝》讓孩子感受唐詩的韻律之美。孩子還跟老師一起穿越去了中生代,孩子們對這個主題特別感興趣,他們通過故事和角色扮演的遊戲,認識了古生物學家、恐龍化石和霸王龍的,期待下個月繼續恐龍單元的探討,孩子們準備好一起去探險了嗎?
