K3 | Outer Space — Mills International Preschool 苗士國際幼稚園

As we approach the end of the academic year, Mills continued the tradition of celebrating International Day as a school. The K3 class came dressed in various brightly coloured clothing, highlighting different countries and cultures around the world. The students did a wonderful job during the fashion show and sang cheerfully during the performance of Hello to all the Children of the World. It was great to hear each of the students share where they would like to travel in the future!

隨著學年即將結束，苗士國際幼稚園繼續秉承慶祝國際日為學校的傳統。 K3班同學穿著各種鮮豔的服裝，著重介紹了世界各地的不同國家和文化。學生們在時裝秀期間做得很出色，並歡快地唱著《世界各地的朋友你好》。很高興聽到每個學生分享他們將來想去的地方！

This was not the only celebration this month as we also saw the return of Mills Sports Day. This was a great opportunity for the K3 students to showcase their athletic development all whilst having some fun and enjoying some competition with their classmates. The students have very much enjoyed their PE lessons throughout the year, and this was a great opportunity for them to display their talent.

國際日並不是本月的唯一慶祝活動，因為我們也看到了苗士運動會的舉辦。對於K3學生來說，這是一個很好的機會，可以展示他們的運動發展，同時也可以與同學們一起玩並享受一些比賽帶來的樂趣。學生們一年四季都非常享受體育課，這對他們展示才能是一個很好的機會。

May brought a close to the topic of Tropical Rainforests and each of the students did an excellent job in the final few weeks and this was demonstrated during the assessment week. I am very impressed with their intuitive understanding of the rainforest ecosystem.

五月《熱帶雨林》的主題來到尾聲，每個學生在最後幾週都做得很好，這在評估周中得到了證明。他們對熱帶雨林生態系統的認知給我留下了深刻的印象。

Our new topic of study may prove to be the most popular of the year, Outer Space. In the first couple of weeks of study, it is apparent that they all have a keen interest for the subject which is great to see. So far, we have discussed the planets of our solar system and their properties and will soon be exploring more exciting topics when we journey into deep space.

On the first Tuesday in May, we told the K3 children ‘Mother’s Day is coming soon, let’s make a card together’. Each student was so excited to create a personalised craft work for their mothers. The smiles on their faces while making the card were proof of how much they love their mums. They made sure that their mums felt special with this unique craft.

五月的第一個星期二，當聽到「今天美勞課的活動是製作母親節卡片，因為母親節就要到了。」時，高班的孩子們歡喜雀躍，紛紛問老師：「是不是明天就是母親節啦？」在製作卡片時，他們的臉上更是帶著甜甜的微笑，有些孩子畫花朵、有些孩子畫笑臉和愛心⋯⋯大家對媽媽的愛溢於言表。

In May, we continued to explore and study Tropical Rainforests. The children have demonstrated a specific interest in the cotton tree. When the students were shown cotton from the Kapok tree, they were extremely happy. They picked up the cotton wool and blew it – “Look! It’s floating!”, one of the students shouted with the others joined in. The kapok cotton was floating all around the classroom and the children ran and jumped to grab the wool; it was such a joyful scene! Through pictures and videos, the students have been learning about the different layers of the rainforests and reviewing what animals live there. They have been developing their understanding by making different animals from the rainforests during art lessons. In addition to learning theme-related vocabulary and sentences, the K3 students have been assessed regularly in order to strengthen their use of the common words.

五月時我們繼續對「熱帶雨林」進行探究學習。孩子們對《大木棉樹》這本書饒有興趣，因此當老師展示收集來的木棉棉絮時，孩子們高興極了。大家紛紛拿起棉絮觀察，吹吹棉絮，「棉絮飄起來了！」一個孩子興奮地喊道，於是其他孩子紛紛效仿，教室裏頓時棉絮紛飛，孩子跑著跳著要抓住棉絮，場面非常歡樂。通過圖片和影片，孩子們瞭解了熱帶雨林裏植物的分層結構，再綜合之前學習的熱帶雨林動物，孩子們知道了各種動物生活在不同的植物層，並將該內容呈現在自己的美勞作品中。除了學習主題相關的詞語和句子，每星期我們還定期進行中文聽寫，以此幫助孩子們加深對常用詞語的記憶。

We have kicked off our new topic Outer Space and the children have been particularly enthusiastic about this theme. The children can’t wait to share their knowledge about space with their peers. They have been demonstrating creativity by constructing their own spaceships using Lego during free play.

在「熱帶雨林」這個主題結束後，我們開始了「神奇的太空」這一主題的學習。孩子們對這個主題特別感興趣，大家紛紛向同伴們分享自己知道的太空知識，他們在自由活動時還用樂高積木搭建各具創意的太空飛船等。
